“JUDAS” is the New Ken Lavine’s Masterpiece?

Prepare to Enter a World Where Betrayal Reigns Supreme and Revolution is the Only Option. Dive into the Depths of Judas, the Most Anticipated Game of the Century, Where Every Choice Counts and the Future Hangs in the Balance!

Almost 11 years after the release of BioShock Infinite, nothing that has come out since then has managed to really take its place. The studio that gave birth to Irrational Games, now rebranded as Ghost Story Games, was rumored to be working on a game that would revolutionize the gaming world. Many of us had been anticipating a BioShock-styled game from the company since it was announced 10 years ago, but it seemed way too good to be true.

It is also unclear whether the new game is the mysterious project that was supposed to have been in development for 10 years. To worsen the situation, a new BioShock game was announced to be in development since 2019 at 2K gaming studio called Cloud Chamber, but bare minimum information about that has been dropped. Nevertheless, it looks like we may finally be getting that sweet tooth satisfied, even if it’s just to tide us over until the next BioShock game.

Ken Levine has been leading his studio Ghost Story Games in creating his new game, Judas. Information about this game has been sparse, yet at Sony’s “State of Play” event this year, we finally got a better look at this exciting game. Just looking at the art style of the game, it simply oozes BioShock. Everything from the architecture and design of the buildings to the enemies, weapons, and feel of combat is very reminiscent. This is no surprise since Ken Levine was the mind behind the BioShock series, and it comes as no surprise that he went for a similar vision for his extremely successful game series.

Ghost Story Games said the new trailer offers a closer look at the game’s setting aboard the Mayflower, a spacefaring city whose citizens are trained to tear each other apart for even the most minor infractions, and where machines control every aspect of business, art, and government. They also mentioned that the world will house a new cast of characters to get to know – and to change – in a world where every decision you make affects how the story unfolds.

The game is named after its female protagonist called Judas, who is a citizen of a retro-futuristic city in space that appears to be on the brink of collapse. You will play as Judas, who seems to have trouble fitting into this society and is unable to become a “model citizen”. Also, the fact that apparently no one can trust each other in this society, where no one trusts another, is apparently too much for Judas, who decides to start a revolution and tear it all down.

In this spacefaring metropolis, cataclysmic events unfold, and you are basically trying to focus on surviving by sticking with your familiar alliances or breaking them. Keep in mind that the choices strongly impact how the events unfold. To enable her in the battles to come, Judas has gained the ability to generate electric shocks from her hand, which she has received from a biotech reactor. Of course, many weapons will be at her disposal to fight myriad frightening and often strange enemies.

All in all, this FPS game looks like a redux of the retro-futuristic world we love, but this time as a space-based horror package. Of course, being made by Ken Levine means that this game has had its fair share of high expectations from us, so let’s see if it can live up to the high bar set by its spiritual predecessor, BioShock. If everything goes well, this game may be the first of a possibly new legendary game franchise, and hopefully, it may give the original BioShock itself a run for its money.

Judas is set to release for PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S, but no official release date or window has been announced. Well, we can imagine a situation when the game is released in 2024 or 2025, so sadly we have to wait a little bit more.
